Foreign Policy on blogging

by Warren

Foreign Policy has a long article on the influence of blogs on politics and policy. While I’m sure the ability to spread stories quickly is both innovative and advantageous, I somehow doubt a bunch of ranting dinks in their bedrooms (yours truly included) will be able to influence the ebb and flow of history.

Outsourcing to Canada

by Warren

Apparently Canada is seen as a more desirable location for outsourcing than India and the Phillipines, since we’re a lot more culturally compatible with Americans. That may be so, but call centre jobs still suck.

Google TV

by Warren

So apparently MSN, Yahoo and (most importantly) Google are working on searching digital video on the web. That’s kinda nifty, though I can only imagine how tough it must be from a computing point of view. Actually, I can’t; I ain’t so good with the math.

Guardian gets bitchy about end of the year book lists..

by Warren

Though it’s kind of tough to figure out who the hell they’re talking about half the time. Literary figures aren’t exactly roll-off-the-tongue famous to begin with, and a bunch of tweedy Brits aren’t any more notable. Still, British newspapers tend to be a lot more mean than their North American counterparts, which makes them much more entertaining.

Monday Night Football sinking fast…

by Warren

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t care a jot for football, so I probably wouldn’t miss Monday Night Football if it sinks into irrelevance. But as a member of the media (two of them, now), I can appreciate the innovation Monday Night Football fostered in sports coverage.

And let’s not forget that Howard Cosell was one smart cat, no ifs, ands or buts. So this story about the decline of MNF was pretty interesting.

Hong Kong struggles for relevance

by Warren

Hong Kong has been getting marginalized by Mainland China ever since they took over the joint from the Brits in 1997. Most of the economic whatnot that used to go through Western-friendly HK has now shifted to profit hungry Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzen. Too bad, because aspiring foreign correspondents (like yours truly) used to be able to fly over there and land a newspaperin’ gig with a minimum of fuss. But I digress. Apparently in a bid to remind the world they still exist, Hong Kong is setting up some whizbang broadband commerce centres.

Friedman says “WTF Iraq BBQ” in NYT

by Warren

Thomas Friedman comes up with some fairly wacky mixed metaphors, and he’s got a love for globalization that only a wealthy cat who gets to write whatever he wants for the New York Times (lucky bastard) could have, but he’s probably got something approaching a point with this editorial about Iraq.

search terms…of the DAMNED!

by Warren

I just went deep into the cellar where I keep the stats for this site. Some of the top search terms that pointed people to Freyburg.com included:

“ron jeremy”, “ann coulter quicktime”, “aol sucks” and (wait for it) “fruit bra.” Sweet.

Welcome to the U.S.S.A., comrades!

by Warren

This comic from the 1960’s about life in a communist United States is solid gold. The commies close down churches, cause mayhem and blow up the Washington monument. Sweet! Where do I sign up for this “communism” they speak of?
