Alexander not so Great (I can't be the first "clever" guy to come up with that one)

Oliver Stone has wanted to make a movie about Alexander the Great for years. He's finally put his vision on the screen, but apparently his vision sucks eggs.

That's too bad. Much as Stone can go completely off the rails sometimes (NBK and the Doors spring to mind,) JFK and Nixon are editing masterpieces, taking a huge pile of material and distilling it into compelling (if not entirely accurate) films.

But his later stuff hasn't been all that great; Any Given Sunday and U-Turn are entertaining enough, but they don't really have the oomph of his earlier films.

Ever since LOTR, I just can't get jazzed about "epic" films anymore. It's been done, and to perfection, at that.

Yeah, it sure has. ROTK pretty much set the bar so high (the whole series did, for that matter), and with elves and trolls, no less...that it'll be a while before anything can top it.

And on a related note, when I saw the Revenge of the Sith trailer in the theatre a little while back...nothing. Even the Clones teaser made me say "hey...I'm going." ROTS left me flat. Sad, Lucas, very sad.

ROTS will be kind of like this mythical "break-up sex" I hear about. A couple breaks up, but gets it on in the sack one last time, almost as a severance package. We've all dumped George Lucas, but we'll relent and watch his third movie. Sure, we'll get off, but will we enjoy it?

If you ask me, Oliver Stone's movies have gone downhill from Platoon on(but that's a hell of a good movie!)

I fully expect this to be a gory "Troy" with plenty of man on man action to divert from massive holes in the plot.

As far as ROTS goes, the major problem with the pre-trilogy is the lack of interesting characters. The most interesting new guy was Darth Maul and he was killed in the first one.

BTW, cool look to the site, looks VERY professional.

Cheers,

No problem. One of the bonuses of this new setup (all praise goes to Cam, by the way) is that I can manage stuff like that fairly easily.
As for Stone, I'd say my top five list would be: JFK, Nixon, Wall Street, Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July.

Don't forget to send some praise to the good folks at Movable type, including the object of your lust, Mena...

Because really, you're using the not-for-profit free version of their software, so praise is all they're getting out of the deal. :)

Sweet Mena Trott, one day you shall be mine....if you leave your husband and business partner and jettison the product that makes this site work. Hmm, maybe not such a hot idea.

Yeah, you'll have to continue on like Peter Parker, and hide your love to protect your superpowers...

By the way, is your dissing of "Alexander" part of some shadowy Zoroastrian plot to get back for the ransacking of ancient Iran? Because if it is, I want in... :)
