Monday Night Football sinking fast...

I'll be the first to admit I don't care a jot for football, so I probably wouldn't miss Monday Night Football if it sinks into irrelevance. But as a member of the media (two of them, now), I can appreciate the innovation Monday Night Football fostered in sports coverage.

And let's not forget that Howard Cosell was one smart cat, no ifs, ands or buts. So this story about the decline of MNF was pretty interesting.

My guess is that this has something to do with the gay marriage ban in the US... you can't tell me that football for gay guys isn't like watching synchronized swimming for the rest of us... :)

I don't think MNF will ever be "irrelevant" as the NFL is just too huge in the US. The networks shell out BILLIONS for the rights air the games., making the NFL the most successful sports league in the world.

My only beef with MNF is the games take too long. Jesus, you'd think they could finish a game in less than 3 and a half hours.

I think they should make performance enhancing drugs mandatory, too... that would jazz up the game when you have guys running 50 yards in 4 seconds and guys punting the ball out of the stadium...

"Face it Fry. Baseball was as boring as mum and apple pie. That's why they jazzed it up."

"Boring? Baseball wasn't... hmm, so they finally jazzed it up?"
