iPod Shuffle coffee warmer

This setup combines two "it's not a bug, it's a feature" aspects of Apple's latest product offerings; the "random good! screen bad!" iPod Shuffle, along with an Airport Express warming someone's coffee.

I can't speak for the Airport Express, but the underside of my (and presumably everyone else's) Powerbook tends to be a bit of a crotchburner after about an hour. Ah, sweet crotchy Apple love! :)

And lest you think I'm complaining about my beloved Apple toys, here's a ripjob on the suckitude of Windows and PCs.

To be fair to PC users, and having used a PC myself for some time, the Windows XP experience isn't quite as bad as the Mac boosting columnist claims. I wouldn't leave OS X for anything, but XP is way more stable than previous versions of the Windows OS. I can't speak to the security falws, because being a Mac user, it ain't my problem. :)

I have to use a PC at work now and my hate for this box increases everyday. How can Microsoft get away with such a shit system. When I go home and get on my Mac I am reminded why I pay the premium to own one.

I dunno, when I had to use System 9 at work in the Pass, I was more than happy to use XP. Of course, I was even happier to come home to OS X. :)

OK, I've got to chime in.

As a newbie to OSX, I've got to say I'm impressed. I like it. I also like XP. It's stable. Very stable. I edit video on it. I game. I emulate. I email. I surf. And I do command line. It seldom crashes.

As for the whole virus thing--jesus, get a router! Pay the 30 bucks and buy some piece of mind. That will take care of 90% of the crap out there. Ditch IE for firefox, and run any number of freebie AV packages out there. There. Was that so hard?

Router
Firefox
AVG Antivirus

Those 3 things will have you running very smoothly. If you decide to open attachments from people you don't know, then yah--you'll get burned. Just use your brain.

I've worked with macs on and off for 8 years. I've seen them crash. Daily. Hourly even. I've seen them taken down by viruses (and worms to be precise).

Nothing is perfect. XP works, but is riddled with exploits and bugs. OSX hasn't attracted the same attention yet, so I don't know if its truely better in that regard or just untested. I'm impressed it runs on a G3 350 though!

I'll be the first to agree with everything Lillerant said about XP, as well as touting the rocktastic OS X, which I swear by.

But by the time System 9 rolled around, the Mac OS was a basket case. It was essentially the same code that ran on the original Mac in 1984, and I saw the bomb icon show up more often than I would have liked. OS X is a complete rewrite from the ground up, based entirely on UNIX, and it's frigging sweet.

But where the two OSes differ is user interface, and here OS X wins hands down. It's not so much one big thing as millions of little things that add up to a great user experience. And that experience builds up over time until your Mac becomes much more of an extension of yourself than the PC could ever hope to do.
