PC software list and a call to my Mac homies

Lillerant has put together a list of essential PC software, along with links to the appropriate websites so you can keep your stuff up to date. You can (and he encourages you to) grab the list here. He also suggested I and my Mac brethren come up with a similar list of Mac software. If everyone's cool with throwing down their suggestions in the comment forum, I can compile it into a list soon afterward.

The nice thing about Apple is a lot of stuff is included out of the box, and Apple Update will make sure you have the latest, so I don't think it makes a lot of sense to list stuff like Safari or iTunes..

I'll throw down a few of my faves...

Holy hot damn that's a great idea! ;)

Seriously though, I've fallen behind on the mac side of things. Last time I used a mac with any regularity was back in the OS 8.5 days...

For newsgroups (primarily binaries) is Thoth still the champ? Has it been overtaken?

What about image making software similar to Ghost? (I want to avoid norton stuff)

Databasing? (to keep track of stuff archived to CD)

Thanks for any help--feel free to suggest PC software too!

Whoops--there was supposed to be a "thank you" at the top of that post for getting the mac list started!

Thoth is still stuck in the pre OS X interface, but it works fine in 10.3, and it's what I use for the binary action. For databases,I haven't a clue. There's a program called Backup, but I'm not sure how good it is at making images.

I am using Adium X and Konfabulator these days. I have also been using Firefox far more than Safai. Mac The Ripper is pretty cool too.
