Trilogies (even four or five part trilogies) never seem to make good singular movies. The obvious exception is, of course, Ralph Bakshi's "Lord Of The Rings", which that Kiwi bastard tried to remake a couple years back.

Yeah, and failed! I mean, the right ingredients were in the Bakshi effort....Boromir with a Viking helmet, hobbits looking borderline retarded, a Balrog that looked like pipe cleaners stapled to a dead bird, and a Gollum that resembled the demented love child of Mr. Spock and a chimpanzee. Pure gold! Trust a New Zealander to screw it all up. Lord, how I hate Australia, Jr.....:)

Is anyone as big a fan of the BBC TV show here as I am?

I dug it. Yeah, the effects are crap, but most of the original radio guys are in it, and it hews pretty closely to the books. Plus it tides you over during non-Who moments. :)

For 1981, I thought some of the effects were pretty okay. The book animations still look superb, though, even in this day and age. I wonder how (or if) that will be handled in the film.

Yeah, actually, you're right, the stuff from the book is still top-notch. In fact, they got away with describing spectacular sequences through the book, a nice way to cheap out. My personal favorite is the Gugvunt-Vl'Hurg war, all done like Space Invaders.

That scene was utter genius. I hear that Simon Jones has a cameo in the new film, but I don't know as what role. I suggest he be the Dish of the Day, unless Peter Davison was called on again.

That'll be weird...for me, Simon Jones IS Arthur Dent. Though apparently this new guy is right on the money, and Jones is getting up there in years...

I am a keen fan of the BBC series "The Office", in which Martin Freeman (Arthur Dent) plays a central role. Thus, I've actually been looking forward to that. Mos Def as Ford Prefect, though.....
