Korea's dalliance with stem cells and deception

South Korea (which I narrowly avoided moving to early this year when a job opportunity turned into a bit of a clusterfudge) is a country brimming with national pride and, some would say, an inferiority complex. So when one of their leading scientists announced he'd cloned a human being, they went a little nuts, and the fact that he turned out to be lying like a madman didn't do their national self-esteem much good. The NYT lays it all out on the line.
