Calgary is Canada's new golden boy

Since I grew up in Edmonton, and now make my home in Vancouver, I say "feh" to all this Calgary adulation. It's still a cold, boring Prairie town, no matter how much money is sloshing around. Not that Edmonton is any different, or that Vancouver is without its faults, but...ugh. Calgary is like Toronto Junior. All the snobbery, all the cold weather, none of the multiculturalism or attractions. Meh. MEH, I say! :)

I lived there for two years whilst going to school, and I echo your indifferent, yet emphatic, "meh". Nothing but beige and grey, populated with people who never call Calgary home, and who never go to the mountains but always boast that they are there.

They also have a HUGE anti-Edmonton complex, at least when it comes to their sports radio stations. That's probably why we beat them in sports nearly half the time.

haha...and yes, they do have a huge anti-Edmonton complex, though to be fair we're not exactly stain free on that one, what with our Calgary hate and all. I still shake my fist at the mere mention of the C-word, which puzzles my fellow Vancouverites to no end.

Of course, the last time I was in Calgary was a few years ago, when it was just picking up, and I guess it was more diverse than the utter blandness I' d seen there before. But I'll take Whyte Ave and the River Valley anyday over Cowtown. It goes without saying I'm loving the near perpetual cycling, general good health and big-city vibe Vancouver has going on. Plus, in 2010 I plan to rent out my apartment to unsuspecting, Olympics lovin' Belgians for some fat-assed Euros. :)
