Dr. Who in the NYT....

...though the focus seems to be on how the creative force of the new series, Russel T. Davies, is queer as a three dollar bill, rather than on how the greatest television show ever made just keeps getting better and better.

Personally, I couldn't care less who or what Davies fancies, and I'm pretty sure nobody else does either, other than some prudes in the States. Are Daleks going to blow things up? Will there be witty banter and crazy-assed, lashed together inventions? Good enough for me. Commence torrenting! :)

The article is really indicative of attitudes towards gays and what they can/can't do in the US. In England, it seems that, yes, people are gay, so let's just get on with it. Davies, series producer Phil Collinson, writers Mark Gatiss and Stephen Fry, and Captain Jack himself, John Barrowman, are all gay. But does it matter? No. They're all hugely respoonsible for the success that the new Doctor Who is. (And we can even look further back to long time producer John Nathan-Turner for gays being in charge of the good Doctor. No wonder he never gets the girl.)

Yet, think of how many "openly" gay people are in positions of influence in US entertainment - none. You have to be a flaming and possess camp cult appeal to be successful in the US if you're gay. Damned Puritans...
