Half Life 2: a tribute to awesomeness

So the girlfriend brought her Xbox over a while back, and since I never finished Half Life 2 on the PC way back when, I picked it up and we went to town on it. Three weeks later, we've defeated the Combine, blown up Striders, and been jerked around once again by the G-Man. The graphics, even on a regular Xbox, are stellar, and the game's combination of puzzle-solving, shoot 'em up and a great story made it gripping as hell. It's one of those games where it's actually fun to watch the other person play, and keep your eye out for potential threats and solutions to problems. At one point Mel said "I HEART YOU, gravity gun!" as she shot soldiers at other soldiers, squealing with glee. :) But now we're stuck. I picked up Metal Gear Solid 2 at a flea market to tide us over, but we need a game with the depth and great gameplay of HL2 (for the regular Xbox.) I know Oblivion for the 360 is supposedly amazing, but I won't be getting a Microsoft's next-gen console for a little while yet. Recommendations, fellow gamers?

Actually, I'm wondering if it doesn't make more sense to wait until Xmas for a 360 purchase. Supposedly Microsoft is trotting out an HD-DVD add-on at E3 next week, but I'd bet good money that when Sony finally debuts the Playstation 3 in November (if they actually do) MIcrosoft will have an upgraded 360 with an HD-DVD integrated into the machine, plus probably a bit of a price reduction to stick it to Kuteragi.

Every video game should have a gravity gun, no matter the genre ("... and the line judge rules the ball is out -- Oh, wait, Kournikova has sent the judge flying out of Wimbledon...")

I don't have an XBox, but I bought a used copy of Shenmue 2 just for the high-conceptness of it (a real-time fighter/adventure hybrid where each chapter of the story was to have been released one game at a time).
