Iran, the forgotten threat

This may fall under the "let's drum up opinion early for some good old-fashioned shock and awe" flavor of article, but it's still a good retrospective on how the West had eyes firmly locked on Communism when it probably should have been minding goings-on in Persia.

The problem in the current Iran standoff is the Bush regime's inclination to talk and try to walk like it was the only superpower on the block.

The US strategy of reaching out for oil in the Middle East has pushed China and Russia into having Iran as a strategic oil ally, which is the only thing stopping a sensible long term isolation strategy against the religious fanatics.

More unilateral Bush initiatives are as useful to the world stability as a bicycle to a fish.

Yup, and from the sounds of things, it's going to get worse before it gets better. What kind of a country puts up with disasters like Iraq and Katrina without batting an eye, remains apathetic when that same administration prepares to gear up for another Middle east misdaventure, but gets its tail in a knot when their President is found to enjoy a little extra-curricular nookie with an intern?
