Simpsons movie! Woo-hoo!

Yes, the Simpsons are going to hit the big screen next year, and there's a teaser trailer to whet your appetite in the meantime. A friend of mine recently remarked that this might be the creators way of sending the show off, after almost 20 years of unadulterated comedic genius, but apparently the series has been renewed up until 2008.

The creators may have already sent the show off into the sunset, as it has, sadly, jumped the shark long ago....:(

I second that. I remember when I would never miss the Simpsons, now I can't recall the last time I actually saw a first run episode?

While I'd agree nothing will approcah "deep space homer", the plant strike episode, or the other great episodes where the show really hit its stride around seasons 4-9, the Simpsons is still the funniest damn thing on TV. Even crappy Simpsons (and I'd argue the latest stuff ain't crappy) is better than anything else (except maybe Doctor Who :))

There's just too many cooks on Simpsons episodes now. I actually made a point of watching the Ricky Gervais episode, and it was quite apparent where Gervais's script ended and the tinkering of the 25 (count 'em, 25) producers began. The characters have ceased in becoming characters and are now merely JDV's (Joke Delivery Vessels). Maybe this is the way to make the long goodbye easier, as it would be crushing on all of us if the Simpsons was still brilliant at the end.

Or, and Frey will be the only one to understand this, we've approached the Sylvester McCoy era of the Simpsons.
