Life without sleep

Sound far-fetched? Not according to the New Scientist. There's a new drug called modafinil that is part stimulant and part sleep-banisher. The American military has been working on ways to keep their pilots in the air and combat-ready for 3 day stretches (with some unpleasant results) and it's only a matter of time before business demands the same of the workforce.

Personally, I'm a pretty light sleeper but I don't have any real desire to be up and active 24/7. I don't buy that the human body can handle it minus any consequences. I also used to work midnight shifts, and I can tell you there's nothing worse than seeing the clock hit 4:00 am and realize you still have half your workday to slog through.

Yeah, but imagine the way this will change WoW... :)

Seriouly, I hate the thought of screwing with my body's natural balance like that, but the way I live/work, it'd probably save me a lot of frustration and stress if I could stay up for a night with no ill effects once in a while.
