PS3 debut madness

I personally don't get the consumer frenzy that is the release of the PS3. It's an overpriced, ugly, hulking beast of a console released by a company staffed entirely by madmen. Though, to be fair, I own multiple Apple products, so I guess I'm just as guilty on the crazy owner/overpriced front.

At any rate, people have been going nuts over the Playstation 3, with altercations in line-ups, rapists on the lam and even a woman trying not to give birth before the console gets released. That's...well, it's crazy is what it is. Particularly since your PC is a way better game machine than any of these supposed "next gen" consoles.

The last console I ever lost sleep on was the Sega Genesis. It's a side of life that I'm glad I never got heavily into.

Plus, nothing ever topped Genesis! So says my emulator!

I camped for a PS2 and it was a year until there were any good games. The PS3 is the same thing, only a lot more expensive. Actually, the best thing about the PS3 release madness was the Xbox360 sale. At least that console is getting down to a reasonable price point and has a good game library.

I kind of agree that PC's are better game machines, but there are some benefits to a console. They rarely crash, installs never screw up anything else on your machine, and you play them in your living room where you have the best seating, screen, and sound. I think this winter most of the interesting new games will be on consoles, and not on the PC, just because of all the console hype.

Lord Frey, I have been hearing these arguments and prognostications on the superiority of pc vs. console gaming for years. Only to see you kneel before numerous console gods. When Parapa the Rapper hits the PS3 you will kneel before it too.

Well...yes. :) And if I had to pick one, I'd go Xbox 360 for the good selection of shooters. Though the Wii is interesting, and relatively cheap.

I saw Blu-Ray on a plasma at Future Shop the other day, and it's undeniably better looking than DVD...but nothing about it makes me want to drop $3k minimum on a home theatre setup. Movies and TV seem to be laptop-centric, and I can't see that changing anytime soon.
