The Fountain is Pi and Requiem for a Dream creator Darren Aronofksy's experimental sci-fi magnum opus, due to hit theaters later this month. It's a story spanning a millennium, dealing with the past, present and future, and all without any computer-generated imagery. It's certainly wildly ambitious, and if the trailer is any indication, fairly intriguing. Wired has a story about the making of the film.
