Radio Free Skaro #14

Delayed, but inevitable, Radio Free Skaro #14 is out and causing trouble as only a nerdy podcast about Doctor Who can. In this episode, we discuss the two latest episodes of Torchwood, the depths of madness we sank to in order to celebrate the Doctor's 43rd birthday last week, and bits and pieces of news about the upcoming series, the Christmas special (mere weeks away), and the Sarah Jane spinoff. Ah, shenanigans. (feed, web, direct download)

Btw, I just noticed that "Song For Ten" sounds an awful lot like the closing theme of Fireball XL5. Ah, Teletoon English, circa 1997. Truly, a magical time. :)

Oops! The Torchwood/news theme snuck in where it shouldn't, under some of our talking. I'll fix that tonight if I can.

Now I have to do a search for this Fireball XL5 song. I was in Red Deer at that time, experiencing three and a half wonderful months at RDTV. Then I got laid off. Just the start of my glorious career in television.

I don't think that the prerequisite for being a member of Torchwood is that you have to be Bi, I think it is you have to be Tri, that you will be willing to do it with anything in order to save the worlld.

Oh I heard for Chris Burgess that the CBC is not going to air the Christmas Special. So why would they deside to not air a show they have paid for except that they will not have the current season fully aired so with that why couldn't they have bothered to start airing the show so it would be done in time for Christmas? Silly CBC

CBC won't be airing The Runaway Bride this Christmas (since their run of Series 2 ends in February); they'll air it at some point down the road. Depending upon when they are Series 3, it seems logical they'd show it slightly ahead of the Series 3 opener. Then again, this is government and logic really doesn't enter the equation.

There's also been no announcement by the CBC about Torchwood, and they've co-produced it as well.

Yeah. Funny how when the "new government" came into power in January, the treatment of Doctor Who by the CBC took a nosedive. Just a month earlier, we enjoyed "The Christmas Invasion" the day after it aired in the U.K., complete with Billie Piper links. Now, we are treated to series two more than half a year after it was aired by the BBC, with frequent preemptions and no Christmas special. Coincidence?

Well, there are a couple of better reasons than this. There has been a change in management at the CBC, and since Doctor Who was part of the previous regime, it is being shunned as the new leadership tries to make their mark. Secondly, Doctor Who has no corporate sponsor this year, resulting in a massive cut to its advertising budget.

As for Torchwood, I think it was a big mistake for the CBC to invest. Its content is unairable in a primetime slot. The fifty minute episodes will require signifcant cuts to fit a one hour timeslot. I predict we'll see it go out at some point on a Wednesday night at midnight.
