More head-scratching choices from Sony

Sony's Playstation 3 roll-out has been one bad decision after another, from Ken Kutaragi announcing people will work extra hard to ge the console to poor sales to, well, this abomination of a commerical from Europe. (I'd embed the video, but Youtube's formatting and my site's don't seem to get along all that well.)

Zuh? How in the hell is that supposed to sell anything, let alone a $600 game system? Ah, Sony. See you in the bargain bin.

Don't be such an uptight Albertan FREY! European gamers are going to love this commercial, and the PS3 too.

What wouldn't you love about a gaming system that costs more in Europe than anywhere else in the world, and also doesn't have the full features of the systems Sony is selling elsewhere?

You have to admit though, the commercial is a hell of a lot better than the millions of Tim Horton's and Molson ads we as Canadians are forced to watch. It's also better than those overly dramatic Gears of War commercials for the Xbox.

I got the sense of those old Calvin Klein scent ads when I watched the Sony ad... or, more appropriately, spoofs of those Calvin Klein ads (eg. Family Guy). The thing had little bearing on the product it was hawking that you just have to shake your head at the end and wonder why they spent the money to make and distribute the thing.

The commercial has more flare and style than the multitude of Molson and Tim Horton's ads we see, that's for certain... but at least when you see one of them you know what's being sold (which, for those, is the sale of Canadian lifestyle as much as the coffee, donuts or beer).
