Curse of the echo!

Our last two podcasts have been cursed with a mysterious echo, making them unlistenable. I suspect it's something to do with bandwidth, as there's no echo on my end and Steven's voice comes in quietly at first and then a second later comes in again normally (so really, "delay" is a better term.) Anyone else out there with podcasting experience care to help us? The same thing happened with both the Gizmo Project and Skype (in fact it was worse with Skype), so I'm inclined to think it's not the programs themselves that are causing the problem.

What is your recording setup? I've had similar issues with using Ubercaster on the Mac, but it was the software routing of the audio that was the solution. Once I changed that, it corrected itself with using Skype. That was after eliminating all the hardware connections on the "studio" end, making sure everything was running out of my computer, through my mixer, and back into the computer without errors.

I usually run through the check list of things. Make sure that your headphones are not too loud that they are giving you slap back into your mic, but on The Crazy Canucks, we have two people in studio and up to three linked up on Skype. There's more things to consider in a situation like that.

I use a Logitech USB headset mic for my end, right into the computer, and I record Steven's portion off of Skype. I use Wiretap Pro to take the audio off the computer itself (gotta be careful to not hit any buttons and to turn off mail and anything else that might decide to chime in unexpectedly) as well as off my Logitech's mic. That basically preforms a mixdown via software, which is great when everything works, but isn't so hot when I'm stuck with one unalterable, echoey track with both our voices.

At first I thought it might be bandwidth issues, but we both make certain to turn off our (otherwise unending) torrent downloads, and we both reboot before we do a podcast to make sure no stray weirdness from previous running programs interferes.

Weirdly enough, the above setup worked just fine before this, and you can't hear an echo while recording (though there is a faint hiss from Steven's end.)
