Radio Free Skaro #41 - Last of the Meh

Our mortal enemy the echo once again victimized us, at least for the first half of the podcast. But it was either re-record everything (not an option at this late hour, and our schedule won't allow another time to record for the rest of the week) or just go with it and beg forgiveness. So we throw ourselves at the mercy of you, our fans, and remind you that we do this show for free. :)

Anyway, we jabbered on about Last of the Time Lords, which was not so good, as well as took a look at the season as a whole and up and coming news regarding season 4. Next up, Episode 42 (two weeks hence, Steven is a busy man) where we'll look at Douglas Adams contribution to both Who and the culture as a whole. Sorry about the echo. Sorry. (feed, web, download)

Yes, it was much nicer once the echo was eliminated.

Nevertheless, my bottom line comment: Yes, Last of the Time Lords was worse than the Dalek stories. Runaway Bride was worse still.

Good choice about using Douglas Adams for the basis of episode 42, although I suppose a fan commentary for the episode '42' could have worked as well from the double-entendre perspective. I met the man, once, nigh a decade ago, and he was a very nice bloke to say the least. He's still very much missed.

Pity about the Scissor Sister song not being played at the end like you did for Voodoo Child last week... I'm starting to get into both of those songs. I've even bothered to download the full albums on which each track appears (but not yet listened to the albums). They're no Spinal Tap like was used for Runaway Bride promos, but they're still fun. And yes, John Simm's "dance" routine was indeed fun, I'll admit that much at least.

Yeah, I meant to put the Scissor Sisters song in at the end, but frankly it was late and I was already cheesed off about the echo situation, so I didn't bother. Here's hoping for better luck next week on the audio front.

How come CTV's entertainment news never covers these developments? I wonder! :-p

Is it bad to make an "Edward the Penitent" joke about Steven's apologies? Would anyone even get it?

So, you had echoing Monday... and for the first part of Tuesday's attempt, but you sorted it eventually. Is the solution something you can reproduce so you don't have to worry about echoing any more?

I wish it was. We made sure to reboot our machines, keep everything wired up by ethernet, and made sure nothing was running in the background. The Xbox wasn't on, so there was no internet activity sapping our bandwidth...it seems like a matter of whim. Maybe reseting my router before a podcast might help......but it seems luck of the draw, really. And over the past few weeks, we had been quite lucky.

The other concern is normalizing the audio between myself and Steven. I'd love to use the Levelator, but it just doesn't seem to like the files Wiretap creates (AIFF, for the curious.)

Since a bunch of other people are into ranking the stories this past season, I've done an initial cut of my own. I prefer to group the two-parters together as one story rather than two episodes. And I'm leaving out the Christmas special. Drum roll please... dah dah dah dum, dah dah dah dum:

Gridlock
Blink
Smith and Jones
The Shakespeare Code
42
Utopia
The Lazarus Experiment
Human Nature/The Family of Blood
Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks
The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords
