The best and worst sci-fi TV show openings

No argument here on most of these....but what about Doctor Who? Huh? HUH? Plus the old Max Headroom opening was quite the bit of cyber-gold back in the day.

Also, despite the cheesiness of the old Battlestar Galactica....that's still one hell of an intro and opening theme.

Alas everything listed is also American, so that explains the lack of Doctor Who or anything else that might be worth considering (Blake's 7, Red Dwarf, etc.).

As a side note, I've never seen Firefly, but I watched Serenity the other day. I'm so very glad I saved the 11 or whatever hours by not watching Firefly. I have no idea what all the furor was over its cancellation by Fox, but watching the movie was none too enlightening I must say. For something sci-fi(esque) aired and canceled by Fox, how about John Doe? That gave you something to sink your teeth into at least.

Going back to those SF shows on that page, notice also how there's nothing recent. I wonder if the lack of proper openings that is becoming more commonplace had any impact on the decision-making. Some may argue comic book stuff isn't (necessarily) SF, but the three-second eclipse shown for the opening of Heroes is hardly something worth Youtubing, despite it being heralded as among the best fantasy shows in years.

most series have opening that suck, one of the few that I like is that of Charlie Jade a Canadian, South Africa, and French production. You cannot enjoy Serenity with out watching Firefly first but since Chris isn't going to watch Firefly now thats his loss.
John Doe was good for a while but it got stupid in the end of the season 1 run. But lets face it if its SF and its on FOX its going to be cancelled.

I'd say generally the more recent openings have steered away from the grandiose, and maybe thats the influence of the X Files and all its imitators. X Files, btw, was a great show, with a great theme song, but an awful opening title sequence.

I though the opening fit the series.

It did, but it looked dated soon after the show picked up steam, around season 3. And the new Star Treks all had terrible opening credits as well....the Deep Space Nine one was maybe passable, and Enterprise could have been ok, but that song (whatever it was called) made me want to puke.

I have to agree in part I would have liked to have seen them update the shows opening. they did a special on the show and they used a different piece of music for that and I though that they had updated the opening for the show. boy was I disappointed.
