Some Canadians aren’t willing to wait for the iPhone

This article in the Globe and Mail isn’t news to me, since I know a few people in the Vancouver tech community who quickly snagged iPhones from south of the border once it was released this summer. But it’s nice to see the mainstream media has caught onto Canadian dissatisfaction with both Apple’s sluggishness at bringing the iPhone up north and the atrocious data rates of Canadian wireless carriers.

Third party apps; about frickin’ time, Apple

So it looks like Apple is finally going to bend to the whims of nerds everywhere and start allowing third party apps on the iPhone and iPod Touch, beginning with the release of a Software Development Kit release in February.

This is one checkmark off of my iPhone wishlist. Now all that needs to happen is for the iPhone to get to Canada, and Rogers to wise up and reduce their frankly atrocious data plans to something reasonable. Not much to ask for, really.

Apple’s comeback, 1997-2007

9rules features a great retrospective on Apple’s comeback from the brink of defeat to their current place on top of the digital media and music downloading heap. The highlight of the piece is a video from 1997’s Macworld where Jobs breaks down just was wrong with Apple at the time (in a nutshell, a ridiculously large product line and plummeting sales) and how it was going to get fixed. And, amazingly enough, he actually did it.
