I’ve worked in television for years, I write professionally, and I make videos for a living…but despite all that I’ve never made a Doctor Who fan film. Well, after attending the fan filmmaking panels at Gallifrey twice and dispensing advice to other cine-nerds, I figured it was time to put my money where my mouth is. I present to you Blue Meanie, the story of one man’s torture by Type 40. I hope you enjoy it, and if you’re going to Gallifrey, stop by the fan video room at 1:40, watch the movie again and say hello!

BBC Drama Trailer – Autumn/Winter 2010/11

The BBC released a trailer promoting several Drama productions that will be airing in the next few months. The three-minute trailer is chock full of actors who were formerly Doctor Who (Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant), are Doctor Who (Matt Smith), and who could have been Doctor Who (Chiwetel Ejiofor), and there are even a couple of brief clips of the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special. 2010 Christmas Special to be 90 Minutes?

2010 Christmas Special director Toby Haynes’ agent’s website is reporting the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas Special will be 90 minutes in length. Confirmation of this information from elsewhere, such as a formal announcement from the BBC, has yet to materialize; however, agent websites in past have proven to shed light on details not previously released officially. Radio Free Skaro earlier this year broke the news of an extended run time for The Eleventh Hour and of course both The Pandorica Opens and The Big Bang went beyond the usual 45 minute run time so there’s certainly precedent in the Matt Smith era for longer-running episodes. Time will tell if this information proves correct, but we at Radio Free Skaro always welcome more Doctor Who!

Radio Free Skaro #217 – You Won’t See Me

After taking the better part of September off to either move to, visit, or stay away from other continents, the Three Who Rule reconvened for their first regularly recorded episode of Radio Free Skaro since the hazy days of summer. And, lo! What a news list to come back to! Some old, most older, but all entirely relevant, otherwise it would have never been mentioned in the first place. In a not-so-unprecedented move, Steven and Chris welcome back the Two-minute Time Lord himself, Chip, to take a look at what is thought by many to be the weak point of Series 5 — Victory of the Daleks. The Series 5 commentary series examines where the episode went right and where it went wrong, and of course there can never be enough discussion about the Power Rangers-esque Daleks. Will opinions change for the better? Will they change for the worse? Will Churchill ever put out that blasted cigar when in the bunker? Only some of those questions will be answered in this week’s Radio Free Skaro!

Doctor Who DVD Releases To Be Synchronized

BBC America has announced that classic Doctor Who DVD releases, beginning with Meglos in 2011, will be synchronized across all major regions. Whereas in the past months would pass between a UK and North American or Australian/New Zealand release, releases will now come in the same week beginning next year. This will certainly make DVD buyers outside the UK very happy, including those of us at Radio Free Skaro who have, at times, pined for releases available in the UK but not yet available in North America. We very much welcome the change, even if the accelerated Region 1 release schedule means 2011 will be a pricey year for DVDs.
