The New Yorker has a great article about how the iPad my exact some serious change on the publishing industry, not exactly known for their future embracing tendencies.
I think that while e-books via the iPad will at first be regarded as a novelty, given time the tablet/pad form factor will become a competitive if not dominant medium for the book and variations thereof that couldn’t be accomplished without digitization. And just like music and television, publishers will fight the future as long as they can, only to be taken out of the loop completely. The internet eliminates the middleman, and I can see a time when authors sell directly to their readers in a million different niches, simultaneously destroying bookstores but making our culture much richer.
Yep, my new article on Mac and iPhone/iPad security is live at Mac | Life. There’s more stuff in the pipeline, tech and gaming related, for different outlets, and I’ll let all you wonderful people know about it as soon as they’re a) written and b) posted. 🙂
Noted OS X security expert Charlie Miller was in Vancouver for CanSecWest, the annual computer security conference. He was good enough to give me his time for an interview for Mac | LIfe, seen below….
…is the title of my latest article over at Mac | Life. It’s already getting some vigorous debate from Flash defenders and detractors, so join in with your two cents, wouldya?.
More writing from yours truly in the mainstream media, this time in BC Tech. First up, an article about Lambda Solutions, who aim to become the “Ebay of knowledge.” I also wrote a “this season’s hottest gadgets” that unfortunately got a little truncated for the web edition.
Yes, you read that right, my latest article at Mac | Life is all about the Apple products the Dark Knight needs to strap to his belt in order to better fight crime. And speaking of comics-related matters, San Diego Comic Con is a huge, crazy festival of nerdosity the likes I’ve never seen. And I’ve seen a lot of nerdosity in my time. Â
So A couple of my iPhone articles are online on the newly revamped Mac | Life, including how to work around using SMS and how to revirginize your phone. I’ve also been informed that my article about iPhone hackers and the App Store is out in the print edition. W00t!
…this one about “revirginizing” your iPhone. Which many people, including myself, may be doing soon in order to run the saucy goodness that is the iPhone 2.0 firmware, rolled out today at the World Wide Developers COnference as part of the hoopla surrounding the 3G iPhone.
The New Yorker has a great article up about the dire straits the newspaper industry finds itself in, and how they can best move past what is clearly a dying business model.
