Chris Hedges in NY Review of Books

by

Chris Hedges wrote War is a Force that Gives us Meaning, a really good memoir of his 20 years covering the madness and futility of combat in far-flung locations. He’s written a review in the New York Book Review about two new books about the war in Iraq, including Generation Kill, which I’ve read.

His review is less about the books than the disconnect between how civilians see war (including correspondents) and how the guys doing the actual fighting perceive things. It’s a good read.

Warren Frey is a journalist, freelance writer, podcaster, video producer, and all-around media consultant currently based in Vancouver, Canada. His written work has appeared in such publications as Metro Vancouver, the Westender, Mac | Life and the Japan Times.
