Dubai: beacon of insane luxury

The Globe and mail has an interesting article all about how Dubai went from a typical Middle Eastern backwater to an insanely ambitious hub of construction, luxury and pretty modern thinking. I’ve wanted to visit the Middle East for a long time, though events of the past five years haven’t exactly encourage such fanciful longings. At any rate, Dubai ain’t exactly backpacker-friendly.
