Half Life 2: a tribute to awesomeness
by Warren
So the girlfriend brought her Xbox over a while back, and since I never finished Half Life 2 on the PC way back when, I picked it up and we went to town on it. Three weeks later, we’ve defeated the Combine, blown up Striders, and been jerked around once again by the G-Man.
The graphics, even on a regular Xbox, are stellar, and the game’s combination of puzzle-solving, shoot ’em up and a great story made it gripping as hell. It’s one of those games where it’s actually fun to watch the other person play, and keep your eye out for potential threats and solutions to problems. At one point Mel said “I HEART YOU, gravity gun!” as she shot soldiers at other soldiers, squealing with glee. 🙂
But now we’re stuck. I picked up Metal Gear Solid 2 at a flea market to tide us over, but we need a game with the depth and great gameplay of HL2 (for the regular Xbox.) I know Oblivion for the 360 is supposedly amazing, but I won’t be getting a Microsoft’s next-gen console for a little while yet. Recommendations, fellow gamers?
