Recently I’ve been taxing my brain with what subject I’d tackle for a video podcast. Unlike audio, I’m tied to a location (in this case, Vancouver, unless it’s a studio-bound news show) and time constraints, because video takes longer to cut together than audio.

I’m pretty much unimpressed with the “jabber into the webcam” style of video podcast. Other than Ze Frank, it seems to be the domain of teenage mopers and Youtube weirdos. And while a set-bound news show like “Wallstrip” or “Rocketboom” is a possibility, I’m not sure what ground hasn’t been covered in that area. Interview shows like “the Merlin Show” also seem to be doable, though I’d have to find a new person every week to harass (not actually that difficult.) Books are a possibility, as it’s an interesting niche and relatively easy to find new material for.

The upside of video podcasts is that slickness almost seems beside the point. There’s a base level of quality to aim for but beyond that the usual TV quick-cut stuff seems almost phony.

So help me out, huddled audience. If I was to do a video podcast, what would you want to see?
