Video Free Skaro 011 – Let’s Cosplay Why Not!

by Warren

This week Video Free Skaro visits Cos and Effect, Vancouver’s big cosplay convention where you’re likely to run into Batman, Link, Ringo Starr and trolls from Homestuck, often all at once. Warren interviews Heather Wilkinson, one of the organizers of Cos and Effect, and she gives him the lowdown on what cosplay is all about and how those interested can join in the fun.

All this and the (somewhat late) news! On Video! Free! Skaro!

A new Platformer, and a new host! Chelsea Altice takes over from Warren to give us the news and generally make the show better. We also have an interview with Atimi software about their Vancouver Canucks app, which gives hockey fans constant updates, behind the scenes videos and access to interactions with fellow fans. And just so you have answers for your grandmother when she signs up for Instagram, we have a walkthrough of the basic features of the app. Enjoy!

future video plans for Freyburg.com

by Warren

You may have noticed over the past few weeks that things have taken a turn towards video (specifically FruityGamer) on Freyburg.com. The reason for that is twofold. Most of the links and quick thoughts I used to jot on the site have moved to Twitter, where it’s easier to carry on an online conversation and I can quickly and efficiently fire off thoughts and whimsy. The second reason is that I’m becoming more focused on video generally, and I’d like to showcase that on the site as well as make it a compliment to Freyburg Media.

The end result is that you’ll probably see less updates but richer content on this site once I start ramping up the video production. I’ve wrapped my head around BoinxTV so it’s pretty easy to create “live switched” content fairly regularly. I’m also looking at creating regular segments involving me mocking some aspect of pop culture, media or the internet, though it’ll take me a while to come up with the segment structure and a decent workflow.

Besides that, I’m also trying to ramp up my After Effects knowledge and wrap my head around some other higher-end creation tools, so expect to see some experiments in that regard in the next few months as well. And of course I’ll continue to showcase the work projects I’m tackling on Freyburg Media.

Hey! with Dane Golden starring Freyburg

by Warren

This Monday I appeared on Hey! with Dane Golden. I met Dane in 2008 at Macworld, and then again when he came up to help with a “Lab with Leo Laporte” shoot. Dane went on to help Leo form TWIT, and worked as president of the TWIT Network until this year.

Dane’s now concentrating on HEY!, his new interview show. Usually it consists of both video and audio, but technical difficulties meant my wordsmithing will have to be listened to and not witnessed in the full audiovisual glory that is the Tokyo Hacker Space. Anyway, give it a listen and feel free to comment below or at Hey.com.
