The ongoing mess that is Iraq

by

One of the reasons the Americans are having such a hard time defeating the Iraqi insurgency is because there are many different, and unrelated rebel groups. But that won’t stop Bush from claiming he can achieve victory in Iraq, which a majority of Americans don’t believe is possible.

Seymour Hersh has consistently been one of the best journalists digging up dirt on America’s machinations in Mesopotamia, and his latest article for the New Yorker explains where the war is going next. It ain’t pretty; there are plans to give Iraqis control of airstrikes (which the military brass aren’t too happy about) and Bush is apparently becoming more and more isolated as time goes on, much as Johnson and Nixon did during the Vietnam War.
