So I went to Joe Fortes (a fancy schmancy seafood restaurant just off Robson Street) with Karyn for a "2005 has been pretty kick-ass, let's use Karyn's gift certificate and eat some good fish" dinner. Not only do I run into an old high school acquaintance outside the restaurant, but who should be sitting behind me but Patrick "Captain Picard" Stewart. I was sorely tempted to go up to him and yell "there.....are.....four....lights!!!" but I restrained myself. :)
The whole X-men crew should be in town for shooting on the third film... apparently they've got a 2500 foot long replica of the Golden Gate Bridge built near Burnaby, in South Vancouver.
Those crazy movie folk!
"Cows don't look like cows on film. You gotta use horses."
"What do you do if you want something that looks like a horse?"
"Ehh, usually we just tape a bunch of cats together."
"You Teamsters....you're so lazy and surly! Can I join?"
The Stewart sighting was actually my second Vancouver restaurant celebrity encounter. I sat right next to Moses Znaimer a couple of years ago, which made sense since the restaurant was just down the block from CityTV. He was surprisingly quiet; I would have expected a lot of "by the way, I'm a genius who revolutionized televison" blather coming out of him, but he let his dinner companion do all the talking.
Of course, Stewart's got him totally beat in the "cool bald mofo" department. :)
Also, the known internationally thing is probably a lot bigger than "some Canadian-market TV mogul"...
I was just looking at the roster of heroes for X-3... the other person to be on the lookout for besides the original cast, is Kelsey Grammer, whom I would NOT be able to resist saying "it's German for 'The Bart, The'" in front of.... :)
And damn, they snubbed me again and didn't use my idea of putting Dazzler in the movie and casting Mariah Carey before she gets too old... :)
