Macbook?

Yup, Apple ditched the "power" from Powerbook, though apparently the new Macbook is a speedy little beast. I'm more interested in the new iMacs with Intel chips, since I already have a laptop, and one of those bad boys dual booting OS X and Windows (for games) would be some sweetness. But I can wait until the summer before I take the plunge. Reactions, Mac nerds?

The new line up seems to be good, and it looks like we will be getting an all intel product line sooner than we thought.

The thing that I find strange is that Apple, who seems to know how to brand, would call it a "Macbook"? That is such a lame name. Why not still call it a Powerbook, it still is a pro level laptop. I can see the argument that without a PPC chip there is no need for the "Power", but man I think that they cam up with that name about an hour before the keynote.

Also the built in iSight is sweet.

Yeah, Macbook is a pretty stupid name, I agree. I think the laptop is cool, but it's not quite cool enough for me to blow a pile of cash. My current powerbook works fine (though the HD did conk out this weekend, and holycrapbbq it was a pain getting everything open to replace it....the keyboard looks like hell now. :( ) I like the iMac intel machine, but I'll wait until the summer when they revamp the line. But I'm thinking my next purchase will be a desktop, as the portable beast does what it needs to and will still be a perfectly servicable laptop after I score a desktop.

I do like the podcast features in Garageband...that might be just the thing to get me off my lazy ass and podcasting...but I wouldn't bet money on it. :)

They can call the new laptop anything they want, I'm still going to call it a powerbook. as for the new imacs well I would rather get a powermac G5 tower.

I don't understand what you have against the Intel chips. It isn't going to make a lick of difference to the user experience, other than it being faster and being able (if you choose to) to dual boot into Windows. But to each their own.

Here's a guy who raises a few good points about the new Macbooks (including how dumb the name is):

What can I say Intel chips suck goat balls, They still can't add properly. Intel has never bothered to correct the problem right. There not RISC processors. If they had gone with AMD it would have been better, but I think that Apple dumped the PowerPC chips to soon.
