Watchmen have all meant substandard cinematic products derived from some of the best graphic novels ever written.
Well, no more.
V for Vendetta pulls off the impossible; it's as good, if not better, than the original Alan Moore comic. This is primarily due to the great performances by Hugo Weaving (as V) and Natalie Portman (as Evey), but a great supporting cast and a script that mostly sticks with the original material make V a great cinematic experience. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm a huge fan of the original comic, but it seems that finally, with films like the Spiderman and X-Men series, Batman Begins and (hopefully) the upcoming Superman Returns, comic books are finally being done right by Hollywood.
