Harper declares war on the Ottawa press gallery

Our Illustrious Leader has decided the Ottawa press gallery can shove it, pronto. He's refusing to give press conferences, and instead using Republican tactics and talking to voters through local media. On the one hand, this kind of high-handed media snubbing burns my chaps on general principle. On the other hand, the press gallery probably IS biased toward the Liberals, and I can hardly blame Harper for getting a little sick and tired of what's undoubtedly a fairly insular, hostile group. But playing fast and loose with the fourth estate probably isn't the way to reign them in.

Grrrrr!

How are Harper's poll numbers rising? Who is supporting this pear shaped, gay bashing, SUV entourage driving, fishing vest wearing, unaccountable, George Bush wannabe? Who?

Well, the West, for one. I'm not a fan of many of his policies, but I'm even less of a fan of the Liberal propensity to take governance for granted, and to wallow in corruption. It remains to be seen if these Conservative zealots can resist the siren call of cronyism and back-pattery so endemic to Ottawa. My money says they will, but that we won't like the results regardless.

Most of the Canadian Press have been nothing but hostile toward Harper from the beginning. Should they really be surprised to be treated this way now he's the PM?
