With all the page-leching tomfoolery going on in Washington, the Repubicans ae starting to lose the support of their base, evangelical Christians. Leaving aside whatever issues I have with religion in general and homophobic fundamentalists in particular, if you claim to be the voice of a group of people who subscribe to a certain moral code, it's probably a good idea to not alienate them by going against everything they believe in.
