Radio Free Skaro #218 – Robots, Vultures and Dying Doctors

The Series 5 Commentary Series gets a bit of a rest as we focus on the news of the week and feature another extended interview with friend of the show, Phil Ford. Phil, along with Russell T Davies, recently won the Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form Hugo Award for The Waters of Mars, the first such honour for Doctor Who not bestowed upon Steven Moffat, and our own Steven sat down with him to discuss the Hugo, the upcoming Series 4 of The Sarah Jane Adventures for which he serves as head writer, and a lot more. Radio Free Skaro #217 – You Won’t See Me

After taking the better part of September off to either move to, visit, or stay away from other continents, the Three Who Rule reconvened for their first regularly recorded episode of Radio Free Skaro since the hazy days of summer. And, lo! What a news list to come back to! Some old, most older, but all entirely relevant, otherwise it would have never been mentioned in the first place. January North America Doctor Who DVDs

The first North American DVD release of 2011 will take place on Tuesday, January 11 when the Tom Baker story Meglos and the Season 6 opener, The Dominators, will hit the shelves. It was announced earlier this month that Meglos will be the first DVD that will be see a simultaneous release overseas on the same day (or near enough) as it does in the UK. The Dominators was released in the UK in July, and is the first Patrick Troughton story to be released since the epic 3-disc set for The War Games came out in 2009.

Doctor Who DVD Releases To Be Synchronized

BBC America has announced that classic Doctor Who DVD releases, beginning with Meglos in 2011, will be synchronized across all major regions. Whereas in the past months would pass between a UK and North American or Australian/New Zealand release, releases will now come in the same week beginning next year. This will certainly make DVD buyers outside the UK very happy, including those of us at Radio Free Skaro who have, at times, pined for releases available in the UK but not yet available in North America. We very much welcome the change, even if the accelerated Region 1 release schedule means 2011 will be a pricey year for DVDs.

Doctor Who 1996 TV Movie Coming to DVD in North America

As heard in an exclusive interview on the Hoo On Who podcast, 2Entertain Commissioning Editor Dan Hall announced that the 1996 FOX Doctor Who TV Movie will be released in North America before the end of 2011. The long and convoluted history regarding broadcast and distribution rights between the various production companies responsible for the movie have kept it off of North American VHS and DVD shelves since its original broadcast 14 years, so this is welcome, and overdue, news.
