Still battling the Avantgo/Virtual PC

by Warren

Still battling the Avantgo/Virtual PC combo. I will be victorious!

I’m a few days late with this, but Lucasfilm will apparently be releasing the original trilogy on DVD. Of course, it won’t really be the Holy Three; it’ll be the special editions, filled with what my colleague Lillebuen aptly termed “CG bunk.” Rumour has it there may be even more bunk than in the theatrical re-releases. Oh well, rent ’em and rip ’em (to quote another friend of mine.)

Curse Greyhound. I’m so tired

by Warren

Curse Greyhound. I’m so tired from my late night arrival in Blairmore that I can barely see straight.

I did get a replacement for my dead Handspring Visor while in Edmonton. The Zire 21 is Palm’s bargain unit, but it does the job, Unfortunately, the nabobs at Avantgo haven’t seen fit to make their software compatible with the Palm OS 5/Mac OS X combo. So I’ve got to run Virtual PC and fool my Mac into thinking its a Windows box in order to get my Avantgo fix. Kind of goofy, but hey, I like reading 5 newspapers in the palm of my hand every morning.

In a flash of midnight

by Warren

In a flash of midnight shift brilliance, Senor Ligtvoet and Schapansky have come up with Lord of the Blings: The Brotherhood of the Bling. That’s right, an all-black cast for the greatest trilogy of films ever made. 🙂 Kind of like “The Wiz”, except actually cool and without Diana Ross or Micheal Jackson. In other words, nothing at all like the Wiz. 🙂 I laughed my ass off when I read this, and I hope you all will too. My personal favorites are Ice-T as Grima Wormtongue and Denzel as Aragorn.

Frodo : Cuba Gooding Jr
Samwise : Jamie Foxx
Merry : Donald Faison
Pippin : Kel Mitchell
Aragorn : Denzel Washington
Boromir : Delroy Lindo
Legolas : Don Cheadle
Gimli : Ving Rhames
Gandalf (the Black) : Morgan Freeman

Elrond : Sidney Poitier
Arwen : Rosario Dawson
Celeborn : Vondie Curtis-Hall
Galadriel : Angela Bassett
Haldir : Djimon Hounsou

Bilbo : Roscoe Lee Browne
Gollum/Smeagol : Jeffrey Wright

Theoden : Samuel L. Jackson
Eowyn : Thandie Newton
Eomer : Will Smith

Faramir : Laurence Fishburne
Denethor : Avery Brooks

Treebeard : James Earl Jones

Saruman : Louis Gossett Jr
Grima Wormtongue : Ice-T

Directed by Forest Whitaker

Though I find it hard

by Warren

Though I find it hard to believe that anyone will be able to top George Romero’s original classic, this trailer for the Dawn of the Dead remake (out this March) is pretty damn good.

And don’t forget to pick up your Zombie Survival Kit!

Dunno if I’ve ever mentioned

by Warren

Dunno if I’ve ever mentioned it before, but Toshi Station is just about the best fusion of funk, Photoshop and the Force on the net. All you nerds need to get over there post-haste.

I dropped my ancient Handspring Visor the other day, shattering the glass screen and rendering it pretty much useless. This little honey is the object of my gadget lust, though it won’t be out in Canada until March.

I’m also looking at getting a new bike (price range: about $1000 but preferably less) to take advantage of the trails around the CNP, but I’m torn between hardtail and full suspension. Any bikeheads have advice to dispense?

Want to see the Superbowl

by Warren

Want to see the Superbowl ads the CRTC keeps from Canadians? Here you go. Also, I didn’t watch the game, but apparently Janet Jackson was (literally) shaking her moneymakers.

There’s a really good editorial

by Warren

There’s a really good editorial in the Guardian about the Hutton inquiry. A tip o’ the hat to my dad, who pointed this article out to me.
