Jon Stewart was on Crossfire

by Warren

Jon Stewart was on Crossfire a couple of days ago, and he completely destroyed the mewling, screaming pundits on the show with wit, calm and by stating the obvious. Presumably, he was on the show to promote his new book, America, but he chucked that out the window to explain how Crossfire and many other screamfests are doing harm to democracy. But check out the video yourself (Bittorrent required); it’s a beautiful TV moment. If you can’t get the video, check out the transcript.

Ron Reagan lays the smackdown

Ron Reagan lays the smackdown on Dubya.

And just to continue the “son of a President thinks another son of a President is a dork” thread, here’s more smackdown form John Eisenhower.

by Warren

For some reason, Edmonton (of all places) has spawned many anchors who now work in the States. There’s Leslie Miller, who is now down in Seattle. So is Ross McGlaughlin, who used to work at ITV (and hung around with some of my old Corus co-workers back in the day.) But the biggest success story is Dana Lewis. The guy went from anchoring the news in the E to reporting from Baghdad (albeit for the Network of Evil.) Kind of makes up for (but not really) the fact that most of my NAIT TV Production class isn’t in the industry anymore, myself included.

And speaking of Fox News, turns out Bill O’Reilly is a total perv. No real surprise there.

Juan Cole, the webmaster of Informed Comment (which I mentioned a few days ago, there will be a quiz later) has a great comparison of what life in America would be like if people lived under the same conditions as Iraq suffers under.

by Warren

There’s a good article on the Guardian’s website about George Bush’s recent transformation into “Furious George”. Though I usually find Daily KOS (the author’s blog) a little too shrill for my liking, he raises some good points, like the fact that Bush seems to be sheltered from reality and comes off as precisely the “Ugly American” stereotype the world hates when he goes off on Kerry in debates.
