Indy is back! Ya…ay?

by Warren

The first picture of and old and grizzled Indiana Jones has surfaced on the internets, courtesy of some unknown photographer named Steven Speilberg, who will probably shuffle back into obscurity after ths lucky break in an otherwise unnotable career.

Anyways, my question is…why do another Indy movie at all? Raiders of the Lost Ark was perfect for what it was, and the other two films were a foregone conclusion…but it’s been almost 20 years since Last Crusade. There really isn’t any need to go back to the well (of souls) once again. But then again, when I look at Harrison Ford as Indy…I let out an involuntary “daaaaammmmmnnnnn.”

A guided tour of the iPhone

by Warren

The hype machine is kicking (even further) into gear, as Apple posts a guided tour of the iPhone and teases all of Canada in the process with what we want, but can’t (thanks to our retarded telcos) have.

No iPhone in Canada?

by Warren

Not anytime soon, according to the Globe and Mail. Can’t say I’m surprised, and with current Canadian data plans, the phone would be cripplingly expensive to use at its full potential anyway, but…somewhat disappointing regardless.

Radio Free Skaro #39 – Utopia!

by Warren

The title says it all….the latest episode of Doctor Who was indeed blissful. Fast pacing, incredible character moments, a stellar performance by David Tennant…and the return of the Master. Words fail us…..or rather, they don’t, for about 46 minutes and change. Jaunty ramblings ahoy! (feed, web, direct download)

Steve Jobs profiled in New York magazine

by Warren

In an article that will either be held up as prophetic or mocked for years to come (such is the power of the iPhone), New York magazine examines Steve Jobs influence on business and culture and leans towards “he may be overstretching on this phone thing.” I guess we’ll see come June 29th, when the iPhone goes on sale in the States (but not Canada..grrr.)

Good copy, bad copy

by Warren

Good Copy, Bad Copy is a Danish documentary about the copyright wars, and you can watch it online or download it, all for free. Neat.

As an aside, I’ve found that with the rise of video podcasts, I’m watching less and less “real” television, and even less movies than I used to. That may have more to do with a busy schedule than anything else, but it seems I’m not alone. (Tod’s blog apears to be broken, but Google cache to the rescue.)

Tokyo’s hidden nightspots

by Warren

The NYT dives into the world of hidden, tiny Tokyo nightclubs in a piece that I’m sure experts on Japan (I’m looking at you, Cam) will shred to bits. I’ve been to Tokyo twice and I can’t say I’ve ever been to one of these places, though I did go to a hole in the wall that specialized in Japanese versions of funk classics. 🙂

The American Left’s victim complex

by Warren

Matt Taibbi, who usually contributes to Rolling Stone, explains (while slumming in Adbusters) why the American Left can’t get its act together. It boils down to the fact that many liberals are in fact part of the elite, and so their interests and those of the middle and lower-class folk they claim to advocate for don’t often intersect. Plus puppets at peach marches don’t help either.

America, founded on piracy

by Warren

At least, that’s one of the many observations of noted free-speech iconoclast Cory Doctorow in an article in Information Week that covers the copyright wars, intellectual property squabbles, and how DRM and litigation-happy entertainment companies are holding back the U.S. economy.
