Radio Free Skaro #74 – Attack of the Lack (of News)

by

The news landscape this week was as barren as a Welsh quarry, and about as interesting, and yet the RFS malcontents managed to blither out a substantial amount of analysis on the newest episode of Torchwood, as well as wax nostalgically about such classics as the Horns of Nimon and the Nightmare of Eden, as well as denigrate the good name of most of the countries in Europe in the name of comedy.

Warren Frey is a journalist, freelance writer, podcaster, video producer, and all-around media consultant currently based in Vancouver, Canada. His written work has appeared in such publications as Metro Vancouver, the Westender, Mac | Life and the Japan Times.

Jean-Paul Samson says:

You guys just make the whole BBC2/3 Torchwood broadcast schedule so confusing. These are the dates for the next few episodes of the series:

Wed. Mar. 19 @ 9 p.m. BBC2: From Out of the Rain
Wed. Mar. 19 @ 10 p.m. BBC3: Adrift
Fri. Mar. 21 @ 9 p.m. BBC2: Adrift
Fri. Mar. 21 @ 10:30 p.m. BBC3: Fragments

So, you’ll have two episodes to review for next week’s podcast. Weee, I guess.

Speaking of copycat vacations, with Warren “borrowing” Steven’s Egypt trip…

When I left my last job, I had planned to go to South America for a month or so (Peru, Galapagos, etc.). Never did get my act together and go. About half a year after that, my former boss was laid off–I imagine he got a rather tasty severance package. So he decided to head to South America for three months, covering most of the western side of the continent from south-to-north. So I sympathize with Steven on this one. I wanted to do something a bit more out there, and someone beats me to it!

Oh yeah, my parents are going to Egypt in April. Sucks, eh?

I Am Steven says:

Why is everyone going to Egypt these days? Two months ago, no one had even heard of Egypt. I mean, what has Egypt ever done to be worth visiting?

How many episodes of TW are on this Wednesday? 4?

Warren says:

Heh…the schedule thing is basically a running gag by now…like I’ve said before, sometime around Thursday I type “Torchwood” into Mininova and whatever comes up, I download. Of course this week that won’t really work. 🙂

jabberwocky says:

not its SciFi but I though I would mention that Sophia Myles is in the movie Mister Foe : http://www.apple.com/trailers/magnolia/misterfoe/

As for Egypt, I don’t know Steven I think lots of people have heard of it, such as Napoleon, anyone who is Jewish.

Josh Zimon says:

Finally, the white smoke has come out of the chimney of the Dr Who Offices in Cardiff: April 5th, the Series Four ride begins.

Warren says:

Gentlemen, start your torrents! Uh, on the 5th, that is. 🙂

Chris Burgess says:

All I know is what I hear from REM, it is my source for everything, and apparently “Egypt was troubled by the horrible asp, yeah yeah yeah yeah.” Anything other than that, ya got me. Well, that and the KFC by those buildings with the triangle-shaped sides. The whatsits that make constellation alignments for the alien landings. I’ve heard of that KFC.

I’m going to miss the BBC2/BBC3 Torchwood schedule gags after the series is over. They’ve been a hoot. I can but hope the BBC starts previewing DW episodes on subsidiary networks. Perhaps Live Five, sod the sports, they can run the audio track from Doctor Who and we can all guess at what’s going on. Perhaps have a “draw what you think is happening” competition. I can offer a wholly uninteresting story about hanging with Steven Moffat as a prize or something. That reminds me, if I mention his Hugo nomination when I next see him, maybe I can score a free beer… hmm.
