Tachyon TV….the other funny Doctor Who podcast

by Warren

We here at Radio Free Skaro are always happy to pimp another amusing Doctor Who podcast, but the pickings are rather slim. Surprisingly, nerds devoted to a whimsical British scifi program can be a humorless lot. Not so with Tachyon TV, a pack of sarcastic ne’er do wells from England who bring the funny in a big way, as well as running Behind the Sofa, an equally funny Who blog. What are you waiting for? Check it out!

Cory Doctorow says “think like a dandelion!”

by Warren

Crazy talk, you say? Maybe not. Doctorow compares the reproductive system of dandelions, which consists of “show up everywhere = success”, to free propagation of content on the net. Though many people hew to the old model of trying to get people to pay for content, Doctorow asserts that for most people creating copies of their stuff is a massive money-sink, and that the best way for their work to survive is to let it spread…like dandelions. Neat.

The ten most historically inaccurate movies

by Warren

Oh, there are some bad ‘uns here. I’m glad they took 10,000 B.C. out for a solid spanking, as it’s an affront to anyone with the slightest interest in world history.

The ten most hated people on the Internet

by Warren

Ah, with web celebrity must come web contempt. A fine bunch of reprobates, these are, though I’ve never understood the Rachel Ray hate.

Mad great Al Jaffe profiled in NYT

by Warren

When I was a kid, I used to ravenously consume my dad’s old Mad magazines. It’s fair to say that a lot of my love of both reading and recent history comes from Mad (my knowledge of the Nixon administration, for one), and I’m glad that my collection has now been passed on to another young guy with an appetite for satire and sarcasm. One of my favorite Mad writer/artists was Al Jaffe, and it turns out he’s still kicking at 87, and still drawing amazing fold-ins for the back page of the magazine.

Radio Free Skaro #76 – Backwards towards the Future

by Warren

With the Third Guy once again AWOL (this time in France) and not much in the way of news in the week prior to the Series Four premiere, Warren and Steven still threw down nearly an hour of jocularity as they discussed both recent Who-ish goings on and took time to reflect on their favorite story from each Doctor’s era. Next week, new Who! Oh yes, and Torchwood finale or something.

The 50 most important blogs…

by Warren

…as arbitrarily decided by the Guardian. An interesting list, though I’m sure everyone’s got 50 of their own favorites that didn’t make the cut.

Radio Free Skaro #73 – The Curmudgeon Factor

by Warren

With much news to discuss and an unwelcome loss of sleep due to Daylight Savings Time for the North American portion of the RFS crew, the grump factor was pretty high in this episode, making for the delightful sniping and back and forth beloved by…well, by the hosts, at any rate. Hopefully our wonderful audience found our snarky comments as amusing as we did. We also found time to “meh” it up about the latest Torchwood between the baleful glances and acidic insults.

Amazing tribute to 80’s TV logo madness

by Warren

Electro group Justice created an awesome video that consists of nothing but faux 70’s and 80’s production company logos comprised of the lyrics of the song. Eye-poppingly cool.
